Upright Whole-Home Softener + Carbon System with brine tank (cutaway)

One tank · two jobs

Whole-home softening and carbon filtration

Hard-water scale can build up on fixtures and inside appliances and plumbing. The softening resin addresses hardness, while the carbon is there for chlorine taste and odor. A polishing gravel base sits below the media.

This is the usual whole-home setup Upright Water Co recommends for city or municipal water when a test supports it. It is not a one-size-fits-all answer for private wells or water that needs disinfection.

What it targets

A combined system for common water concerns

The included media targets hardness, chlorine taste and odor, and sediment. Results depend on your water and the system being operated and maintained as directed.

Hardness

The resin exchanges hardness minerals as water passes through the tank.

Chlorine taste and odor

The carbon bed is included to address chlorine taste and odor.

Sediment

The system targets sediment as part of the whole-home treatment approach.

Not intended for treating water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

System features

  • Ceramic-disc programmable control valve: longer life, less maintenance, an easy program interface, long-term program memory, 72-hour memory backup and a 1″–1¼″ bypass.
  • 36,000-grain softening and coconut-shell carbon in one tank.
  • 10% crosslinked CG10 resin resists chlorine and oxidation for a longer life, delivering high-flow soft water with no pressure loss.
  • A polishing gravel base supports flow and prevents channeling for even water distribution.
  • Protects plumbing, water heaters and appliances from hard-water scale.

How it works

Softening and carbon, together

Water enters the single media tank and passes through a mixed bed. CG10 resin uses ion exchange to address hardness. Granular activated coconut-shell carbon is included to address chlorine taste and odor. A polishing gravel base supports the bed.

The ceramic-disc control valve manages the system cycle. It is programmable, highly configurable, and has a 72-hour memory backup. The bypass lets water be routed around the system when needed.

During regeneration, the brine tank supplies salt water to refresh the resin. The stated general cycle uses about 9 lbs of salt and 45–60 gallons of water. Actual setup and care should follow the system guidelines.

Before choosing a system, we check your tap and discuss household use. If the combined system does not fit your results or goals, we will explain another option instead.

More capacity

XL system option

For bigger households, the XL option changes the capacity and tank size: 48,000 grain, 1.5 cu ft of resin, and a 12″ × 58″ media tank. The standard configuration is 36,000 grain, 1.125 cu ft of resin, and a 10″ × 60″ tank. We can compare the options after looking at your test and household use.

Catalytic carbon

An upgrade for chloramine and sulfur odor

Catalytic carbon is an available media upgrade for chloramine and sulfur-odor control. It is selected based on the water and the concern being addressed. A test comes first, especially for well water.

Product questions

Before you book a test

Other solutions

How long does the free water test take?

It usually takes about 30–45 minutes.

Do you offer financing?

Financing options are available. Ask about financing during your free water test.

Does one tank both soften and filter the water?

Yes. The mixed bed combines CG10 softening resin, granular activated coconut-shell carbon and a polishing gravel base. The resin handles hardness; the carbon addresses chlorine taste and odor.

What if my city uses chloramine?

Catalytic carbon is an available upgrade for chloramine and sulfur-odor control. We discuss the media choice after reviewing your water and the concern you want to address.

Is this the usual system for private wells?

No. This is our usual city-water system. Wells need a separate test-based plan; bacteria and nitrates need a certified lab.

How often does the salt need attention?

As a general guide, salt may need topping up about every 2–3 months. Check the brine tank and follow the system instructions; household use affects the pace.

What warranty coverage applies?

Coverage for the original purchaser includes lifetime system dry parts, five years for the control valve, circuit board and filtration media, and one year of original-installation labor. Conditions and exclusions apply.

What does the free test include?

We come to your home and screen hardness, chlorine and TDS at your tap. It is free, there is no obligation, and we explain the results before recommending equipment.
