On the Parker/Tarrant county line

Water Softeners & Filtration in Azle, TX

Azle straddles the Parker and Tarrant County line and treats its own water from Eagle Mountain Lake. The city calls that water moderately hard to sometimes hard, and a free test shows where your tap falls.

Where Azle’s water comes from

Azle runs its own water treatment plant on Eagle Mountain Lake. The city lists the plant’s capacity at 6 million gallons per day and reports that 2024 production averaged 1.94 million gallons per day. That is a city that controls its own treatment rather than buying finished water from a neighbor.

The 2024 Water Quality Report describes Azle’s water as moderately hard to sometimes hard, in the range of about 100 to 140 ppm. The report explains where that comes from: as rain falls and runs off toward the lake, it passes over limestone and picks up minerals before it ever reaches the intake.

On the USGS scale, 61 to 120 mg/L is moderately hard and 121 to 180 is hard, so Azle’s reported range crosses that line. The ring on this page shows the top of the reported range, up to 140 ppm, not a single measurement at any one home. Lake chemistry shifts with rainfall, and the reading at your faucet may be lower.

Know your supply

City water, water supply corporation or private well?

Check your supplier before applying Azle’s lake-water report to your home. If the bill names the City of Azle, that is the report to start with. If another provider serves you, its report is the relevant one. A property on a private well needs its own testing rather than the city’s reported range.

Sitting on the county line also means Azle residents sometimes look at the wrong paperwork. Parker County and Tarrant County resources apply differently, and a home just outside city limits may have nothing to do with the Eagle Mountain Lake plant. Knowing whether you get a City of Azle water bill is the simplest first check.

If you are on a private well, the EPA advises testing every year and after any change in taste, smell or color, and bacteria and nitrate testing belongs with a certified lab. Not every Azle home sits in Parker County, so the groundwater district information linked here applies to the Parker County side.

Parker County is in the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District (Hood, Montague, Parker and Wise counties). The EPA says private well owners are responsible for their own water and advises testing every year.

Your test

What we’d check at a Azle test

An Azle test focuses on where your tap sits in that 100 to 140 ppm range and what you notice day to day.

  • Hardness at your tap

Moderately hard and hard call for different conversations, so we measure rather than assume the top of the range.

  • Scale and spotting

We ask about shower heads, kettles and dishes, since those everyday signs show how hardness is affecting your home.

  • Dissolved solids

A TDS reading describes dissolved material. We discuss your taste concerns separately rather than predicting them from that number.

  • Disinfectant taste

If the taste at the kitchen sink bothers your household, we talk through filtration options.

The free, no-obligation in-home test checks hardness, chlorine and TDS at your tap. We come to you and explain what the results mean.

Services that fit Azle homes

Azle’s reported range crosses two hardness classes, so the top-end gauge should not decide whether you buy a softener. Your measured hardness, household use and scale concerns matter together. A home with a lower reading and little trouble may have a different recommendation from one where scale keeps collecting on fixtures.

If the problem is drinking-water taste rather than scale, compare a kitchen filter or reverse osmosis with whole-home filtration. A softener is not a taste filter, and a carbon filter does not remove hardness. The plant’s production figures explain the public supply, not the size of equipment needed at your house. Homes using another supplier or a well should start with their own source information and test results.

FAQ

Questions from Azle

More questions

Is Azle water hard?

The city’s 2024 Water Quality Report calls it moderately hard to sometimes hard, about 100 to 140 ppm. That crosses from the USGS moderately hard class into the hard class.

Why is lake water hard in Azle?

The report explains that rain and runoff pick up minerals from limestone on the way to Eagle Mountain Lake. Those minerals are what show up as hardness.

Does Azle treat its own water?

Yes. The city runs its own plant on Eagle Mountain Lake with a listed capacity of 6 million gallons per day, and reports 2024 average production of 1.94 million gallons per day.

Does a softener make sense at 100 to 140 ppm?

It depends on where your home lands in that range and how much the scale bothers you. Some households near the lower end are happy without one; others at the top notice it every day. The test gives you a number to decide with.
