FAQ
Water Treatment Questions, Answered
01
Water testing
Is the water test really free?
Yes. It is free and there is no obligation to buy. We come to your home, check hardness, chlorine and TDS at your tap, and explain the results.
How long does the free water test take?
It usually takes about 30–45 minutes.
Do I need to be home?
The test takes place at your home. We will arrange access to a tap and the visit details with you when scheduling.
Can you test well water?
The free in-home screening checks hardness, chlorine and TDS. It is not a certified lab analysis. For bacteria and nitrates, use a certified lab; the EPA advises private well owners to test yearly.
Will you try to sell me something?
We will tell you what we found and what, if anything, would help. If your water does not need treatment for what you care about, we will say so.
02
Whole-Home Softener + Carbon System
How long does the free water test take?
It usually takes about 30–45 minutes.
Do you offer financing?
Financing options are available. Ask about financing during your free water test.
Does one tank both soften and filter the water?
Yes. The mixed bed combines CG10 softening resin, granular activated coconut-shell carbon and a polishing gravel base. The resin handles hardness; the carbon addresses chlorine taste and odor.
What if my city uses chloramine?
Catalytic carbon is an available upgrade for chloramine and sulfur-odor control. We discuss the media choice after reviewing your water and the concern you want to address.
Is this the usual system for private wells?
No. This is our usual city-water system. Wells need a separate test-based plan; bacteria and nitrates need a certified lab.
How often does the salt need attention?
As a general guide, salt may need topping up about every 2–3 months. Check the brine tank and follow the system instructions; household use affects the pace.
What warranty coverage applies?
Coverage for the original purchaser includes lifetime system dry parts, five years for the control valve, circuit board and filtration media, and one year of original-installation labor. Conditions and exclusions apply.
What does the free test include?
We come to your home and screen hardness, chlorine and TDS at your tap. It is free, there is no obligation, and we explain the results before recommending equipment.
03
Drinking water & reverse osmosis
Does reverse osmosis remove minerals?
Yes. The membrane reduces many dissolved solids, including minerals like calcium and magnesium. Some systems offer an optional remineralization stage that adds a little back for taste.
Does an RO system waste water?
An RO system sends some water to the drain by design. That water carries away what the membrane held back. How much depends on the system and your water.
Do I need whole-home treatment too?
Not always. RO handles drinking and cooking water at one tap. Upright’s usual city-water system combines softening and carbon filtration for the whole house. The two can work alongside each other when the test and your goals support it.
How often do the filters need changing?
Plan for yearly RO filter care as a general guide, and follow your equipment’s schedule for filters and membrane care. Upright Water Co offers annual service and filter care.
04
Well water systems
Do you offer treatment for iron or sulfur odor?
Yes. Upright Water Co offers well-focused systems for iron, sulfur odor and sediment. We start with a test and choose the arrangement from the results.
Does the free well screening test for bacteria?
No. The free in-home screening checks hardness, chlorine and TDS. Bacteria and nitrates need a certified lab.
Does every well need two tanks?
No. A dual-tank arrangement is considered when the water and treatment jobs support it. We explain why each stage belongs in your plan.
Can I use the city-water combined system on a well?
Do not assume it fits. Well water needs its own test-based plan; the combined softener and carbon system is our usual city-water option.
Do you provide ongoing care?
Yes. Ask about annual service and filter care for the equipment selected for your water.
05
Salt-free systems
Is a salt-free conditioner a real softener?
No. It does not remove hardness minerals. It aims to reduce scale, while an ion-exchange softener removes hardness.
Can I use this salt-free option on a private well?
No. Upright’s salt-free option is for city water only. Well-water treatment starts with a separate test-based plan.
Will my hardness reading go down?
Not from conditioning alone. The hardness minerals remain, which is why we distinguish conditioning from true softening.
Does it replace RO for drinking water?
No. Conditioning and under-sink RO do different jobs. We can discuss drinking-water treatment if that is your main concern.
How do I choose between salt-free and the combined system?
Start with a free in-home hardness, chlorine and TDS test. We compare the approaches against the results and your household goals.
06
UV water treatment
Does UV remove hardness or dissolved solids?
No. UV is a disinfection step; it does not soften water or remove dissolved solids.
Does every private well need UV?
No automatic recommendation fits every well. Use the test results and a water-specific plan to decide whether UV belongs.
Does the free test prove I need UV?
No. Our free screening checks hardness, chlorine and TDS. Bacteria and nitrates need certified lab testing.
Can UV replace my well-water filters?
No. Iron, sulfur odor and sediment are different treatment jobs, and the water entering UV must suit its guidelines.
Is service still needed?
Yes. Follow the selected unit’s operating and maintenance instructions and ask about annual system care.
07
Annual service & filter care
Does Upright offer annual service?
Yes. Upright Water Co offers annual service, filter care and ongoing support. Tell us what equipment is installed when you request help.
How often should I check softener salt?
As a general guide, salt may need topping up about every 2–3 months. Check the tank and follow the system guidelines; household use affects the pace.
How often should I plan for RO filter care?
Yearly RO filter care is a general guide. Follow the selected system’s instructions for its filters and membrane.
Does an annual service visit replace well testing?
No. Equipment care and well testing are different. The EPA recommends yearly well tests, including certified lab testing for bacteria and nitrates.
How do I request service?
Use the form and describe your system, the care you need and any changes you have noticed.
08
Well water
Should I test my well water every year?
Yes. Private well owners are responsible for their own water, and the EPA recommends testing every year for total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids and pH. Test more often if something changes, like taste, smell, color or nearby flooding.
Can you help with iron or a sulfur smell?
Yes. Upright Water Co offers well-water systems for iron, sulfur or sediment concerns. Start with a test so the treatment fits the water. Bacteria and nitrates need certified lab testing.
Is an in-home test enough for a well?
The free in-home test checks hardness, chlorine and TDS. It is a screening, not a certified lab analysis. Bacteria and nitrates need a certified lab; the EPA advises private well owners to test yearly.
